Apple have given back the non-stack menus

Not sure if anyone who uses a mac will have noticed this yet but it's really handy. Must have been added in a recent patch.

The "Display as folder" and "View as list" are the 2 useful ones which make the menus like they were on Tiger only without the need to right click them to open.

A fun game stolen from groolover who posted this the other day. I'm just posting this for the benefit of anyone I know who hasn't seen it as it's very cool. It's a webpage where you think of a character from Tv or Films and it tries to guess who you're thinking of by asking you yes and no questions. I thought of some fairly obscure people and it got them :-)

Finally got round to updating my gallery with the tiny amount of photos i took during November and December and my latest ones from my trip to Auckland Zoo are in the January 05 album.
Hurray for mullet monkeys and Meerkats!

I am still very pleased with my new camera, the huge 10x zoom is prooving to be even more useful than i thought it would.

As you may be aware i am currently on my year in industry and am earning money. Next year i go back to uni and will be doing various computing things as my degree is in Computing.

My uni are gits and generally give us projects which involve software which is either unavailable for anything other than Windows, or to get hold of a version for an alternative OS you'd need to shell out hundreds of pounds because they're usually also so obscure you can't even get them from the net or borrow them from someone (not that i would you understand).

So, as currently the only computer i have which is fast enough to do useful things is my Mac i am in the market for buying a new laptop this year with some of my earnings.

The problem i have is choice. (i know it's not a very bad problem really but it's still a problem :-P )

My requirements are these:

Firstly that it meets at least these specs.
1.6ghz or faster cpu
1gb Ram or more.
32mb or more graphics with it's own memory and has to be ATI or Nvidia to allow for nice use with linux if needed.
60gb minimum hard disk.
USB2 (/firewire)
CDRW-DVD or CDRW-DVDRW either internal or external
wireless B/G built in.

Secondly as it's going to be a laptop for taking places i'd like it to be small and portable so nothing heavier than 3kg but preferably less and nothing bigger than 15" screen but preferably smaller.

Thirdly i would love for it to be a tablet as this would be v.v.v.useful for drawing/photoshop etc, but as i currently am not great at these things and there's only 1 tablet pc which fits my requirements i might have to do without the tablet option and buy one seperately.

So on to the poll, i've found 2 laptops which fit my needs, one of them is the only tablet ive found which is good enough, and the other is just a dell which looked nice.

Please vote for which you think i'd be best with as i can't choose, or if you have a better idea choose other and comment with what you think :-) (no choosing "buy a mac" i already have one :P )

Harry Potter Trailer

The next Harry Potter Film looks surprisingly good. It seems to have a much darker feel to it which is what it needed. The filming style looks more sharp and edgy and not quite so cute and cuddly and all the kids seem to have grown up a little which is also what it needed :-) Also Gary Oldman is playing Sirius :-)

Quite looking forward to it actually, shame it's not this christmas as usual.

Sooo sleeepy.

I had a lovely weekend at home. Spent lots of time with a friend and went to see Pirates of the Caribbean which was absolutely fantastic :-)

Also i have brought back all the wireless stuff we needed like the router for our internet, so we have internet properly now, which is lovely especially as i can use it anywhere round the house on my powerbook.

Must sleep now i have to be up at 7am :-(

Using my mobile as a bluetooth modem

I am about to move in to a new student house and i won't have internet for a couple of weeks while it gets organised.

I have a Sony Ericsson T610 phone and a Powerbook G4 12"

I have heard i can use my phone as a modem via bluetooth and connect to the net that way (although fairly slowly)

Does anyone know how i can do this because i can't find any information on it anywhere and it's quite important that i have some sort of net access next week.
